Start the Season at the Asham Ice Breaker in Morris

The Asham Ice Breaker returns to the Morris Curling Club from August 28 to 30, giving teams an early opportunity to get back on the ice, sharpen their timing and start the new season with a full weekend of competitive curling.

Hosted in Morris, Manitoba, the event brings teams together for solid early-season games, a chance to settle into competitive rhythm and an opportunity to test lineups before the season gets into full swing.

Team entry is $600, with registration closing August 7. Spots are limited.

A strong start to the curling season

The Ice Breaker has become a familiar early-season stop for competitive teams in Manitoba. Last year’s champions included Team Chase Sinnett on the men’s side and Team Kayla MacMillan on the women’s side, adding to the event’s history as a strong kickoff to the curling season.

For teams preparing for the season ahead, the timing is ideal. Late August gives players a chance to get back into game conditions, build team chemistry and identify what needs to be sharpened before the competitive calendar gets busy.

The event format is expected to include pool play, giving teams multiple games over the weekend and a valuable opportunity to prepare for the season ahead.

This year’s Asham Ice Breaker also comes at an exciting time for curling in Morris.

Asham Curling Supplies recently became the naming sponsor of the Asham International Curling Development Centre, located within the Morris Curling Club. That connection makes the event a natural fit: an early-season competitive bonspiel hosted in a facility built around curling development, training and performance.

The centre supports athletes from beginner to elite levels with year-round ice, coaching resources and training technology, including video analysis, lasers, iPads, speed traps and the Canadian Rock Thrower.
