ASHAM CURLING SUPPLIES ANNOUNCED AS NEW TITLE SPONSOR OF THE CARGILL CURLING TRAINING CENTRE BEGINNING JULY 2026
Morris, MB — The Morris Curling Club is pleased to share an exciting new chapter in the evolution of Canada’s first year-round curling training facility.
Nearly a decade ago, on July 13, 2016, the Morris Curling Club hosted a landmark press conference announcing the creation of the Cargill Curling Training Centre (CCTC)—the first dedicated, year-round curling training centre in Canada. Federal, provincial, and local dignitaries joined club members and community partners to celebrate the moment.
At that event, Dallas Oldcorn, Cargill Manitoba Sales Manager, highlighted the company’s commitment to community, noting that Cargill actively seeks meaningful partnerships in the regions it serves. Cargill’s initial $50,000 contribution ignited the $173,000 project and secured naming rights for 10 years. Shortly thereafter, Elmer Hildebrand of Golden West Broadcasting provided an additional $25,000, supplying the momentum needed to officially launch the CCTC.
The training centre was built to be innovative from the start. The addition of the Canadian Rock Thrower and the geothermal ground loop system made the CCTC a one-of-a-kind facility globally. Access to summer ice proved essential for elite athletes to refine their technical skills between May and August—well before the competitive season begins. While high-performance teams have relied on summer ice to fine-tune their technical skills, the goal has always been to offer a place where curlers of every level can develop their skills with quality ice, proper coaching, and innovative training tools.
In Curling Canada’s 2024–25 Extra End publication, David Murdoch, Curling Canada’s Director, High Performance, emphasized the importance of summer ice time for athletes striving to excel at the highest level.
Few athletes embody the value of offseason training better than Jennifer Jones, who trained at the CCTC during multiple summers—first with teammates Kaitlyn Lawes, Jocelyn Peterman, Dawn McEwen, and later with Mackenzie Zacharias, Emily Zacharias, Karlee Burgess, and Lauren Lenentine. Her dedication at the CCTC reflected directly in her on-ice success.
From 2016 through 2025, countless elite, competitive, and developing teams have relied on the CCTC’s summer ice to advance their technical development. The World Curling Federation has also visited the centre twice in the past nine years to conduct precise research using the Canadian Rock Thrower and other CCTC equipment.
The Centre welcomes all stages of curlers from beginner to elite. All stages benefit from training and using the equipment at the centre to improve their game. The recreational curler will have more fun if they are able to execute more shots in a game. All curlers and those wanting to be curlers are welcome at the Training Centre.
We extend sincere gratitude to Cargill and Golden West Broadcasting for planting the seed that has grown into an internationally recognized training centre now celebrating 10 years of success. Special thanks as well to our media partners for their outstanding support and coverage throughout the years.
A New Era Begins
Tonight, November 28, at the 18th Annual DEKALB SuperSpiel, we are proud to announce the next stage in this facility’s evolution.
A lifelong supporter of curling in Manitoba, across Canada, and around the world, Asham Curling Supplies has signed a new 10-year agreement, beginning July 1, 2026. With this partnership, the centre will transition to its new name:
